That to me is the visceral addictive thrill of playing golf, what sets it apart from all other ball sports--the scope and majesty of trajectory of a full golf shot. I mean the hail mary pass, the towering home run shot is a marvelous sight, but that distance in golf terms is like, about an easy eight iron. Golf gives you the chance to paint these beautiful gigantic lines high in the sky, send your ball ridiculously far away. As a kid I went thru a model rocket phase and golf right now reminds me of rocketry. Instead of combustible fuel your projectile's powered by nothing but the energy stored in your loins. When you are striking it flush there is a definite feel of explosive thrust and liftoff at impact. It is almost alchemical what happens in that moment. |
Beautiful writing. Love the passion.

Or as Moe Norman once put it... "Just take this dumb guy [club] and hit that dumb guy [ball] into that dumb guy [fairway]"

Shot a miserable 82 at Crossgates yesterday. Dare i say it, i'd rather have been in the office than playing golf if i knew i would shoot that. Didn't feel like i hit the ball awfully but couldn't make a putt to save my life. The greens were punched but that's no excuse, they were still rolling pretty well. Just need some mental floss to clean out sunday's round of craziness i guess.

If I could only Putt, I had 3 three putts yesterday and shot a 72. one of the three putts was for Par on a par 5. never leave an eagle putt short, but don't run a 90 footer 8 feet past with a down hill breaking putt. LOL Good day on the links.

I wish that were the case. I went out yesterday for a 9 hole practice round. I started bogey, double, double, double. The rest of the round had one par in it, no birdies. Something's terribly wrong. Spent an hour on the practice green yesterday afterward and tried to work some things out. I have a good eye on it as far as putting is concerned but the long game is suspect. I think it's more mental than anything> i have to get back to basics and get my confidence back up.

82 again. This time it included a quad bogey that involved a penalty for a double-chip, sickening. I reached a par 5 green in two with driver and 54 degree wedge, that was pretty cool. Putted a little better. Pounded it off the tee. Not impressed with the score but I'm enjoying my game lately, I am making some shots here and there.

Had my first 300 yard drive of the year last night. Turned a 405 par four into a 75 yard par three. The GPS gave me 311. I still bogeyed the hole due to a three put. Now I did have a 30 mph wind at my back, but don't tell anyone.
I have also already made more birdies this year than I did all of last year combined.
My handicap so far has gone up about a half a stroke.

That mini-golf course must have been a toughie. The windmill hole is an absolute b*tch.

Another 88. I feel like I could use a rubber stamp. Give away shots keep me from scoring well. I either lose concentration or get tired on the back nine. Oh well.

Today I played at a course called Faldo golf institute that was a 9 hole par 32 course that I played twice for 18 holes. On the 4th hole in the 2nd round(13th hole overall) I found the water 4 times for an 11 on the par 3. I shot 7-over 71.

Player, try to come up with some better stories, the old "shooting under par till the dreaded 11" is getting a little tired.
