I used to only carry about 12 or 13 clubs but up to 14 clubs the past couple months now that I have stuff that I like and fits together. Line up is:

Dr 10.5
5W 18
Hy 20
4i - GW (50)
56w
60w
putter

The last thing I added was the 60* wedge, I seem to be using it a bunch, and while the occasional thin shot or leaving one short happens, it's been pretty good I think.

What I want to do is add in a 3 wood sometimes. To be honest, I feel like the driver gets me into many bad situations (either mis-hit, or hit too far into trouble), considering the 3 wood to be something for tee shots where the 5 wood just isn't enough.

Pulling the driver out is an option, but I feel like I need to learn how to trust it, and though I have gone without it in the past for a while don't want to rule it out entirely.

Pulling the 60* out and just use the 56* for those shots is an option.

The next one might be the 4 iron, since in some cases the 5 might be swappable. Truth is I like hitting the 4 iron, sometimes its the right call on the tee on tricky short par fours.

I could swap the 3W for the 5W. I always liked 5W off the deck more than 3W though. Off the tee the 3W is longer.

ideas?

Why not just swap out clubs based on the course you are playing? It might be more of a guess on a course you are unfamiliar with, but on your regular courses, figure out what clubs more fit with how you generally play that course.

Not that I'm any good as a golfer, but looking at your lineup, the 2* gap between your 5wd and Hy is something to look at. Maybe swap the 5wd for a 4wd if you don't go with srogers suggestion.

The 5W and Hybrid are actually spaced out good in terms of the the ball distance. The 5W shaft is 2 or 3 inches longer, therefore more clubhead speed.

I played two rounds today. First round I pulled the 4i. Wanted it for two shots, but it was ok without. Had a devil of a time mis hitting the 60*. So on the second round I pulled out the 60* and put the 4i back. Hit some good 4i shots and didn't miss the 60* to speak of.

The 60* is fun to use but I remember now that when I had one before it cost me some strokes because it can be tricky to hit.

I also carry a 5W and 20* hybrid. (Actually they are both Titleist 910 series clubs and both 19*, but I adjusted the loft on the 5W to 18.25 and the loft on the 3H to 20.5.) I wanted to switch the 5W out for a 17*/4W, just for a little more distance gap between the two. However, I don't hit the 4W as consistently as the 5W from tight lies, so just can't pull the trigger on removing the 5W from my bag. I pulled 4 and 5 iron from my bag and use a new Adams A12 25* hybrid to cover that gap (Hit it between 170 and 185). The hybrid is so much easier to hit well. I choke down an inch or so for a shorter shot and can get a 20 yard range starting as low as 165 yds if nec.)

I once considered removing my 60* in favor of the 4W, but I find I use the wedge very effectively, quite often. Probably 3-4 times average per round. It truly is a good scoring club for me, while my 4 and/or 5 irons rarely made a difference in the bottom line.

hey Doug. Yes, if I had two pick the two clubs that are on average the closest in use/range/results probably 4i and 5i and I thought about the same thing - put in a 27* hybrid, with the extra shaft length would end up between clubs or so. The thing is I really enjoy hitting the 4 or 5 iron. Something different and satisfying about a good impact with the long iron and watching it fly (when I catch it). However PING have been putting the G15 clubs on discount. If I can find a 27* with stiff shaft (an uncommon combo) somewhere and I have cash burning in my pocket I might pick one up to try it, maybe.

Just an observation...six degrees of gap between your gap wedge and 56* wedge is a lot.

I went to 47/50/53/56 on my wedges.

That still leaves room for a driver, 5w, 3h, and 4h.

I don't see any reason to carry a third wood. If I did, I'd lose the 3h. But I've actually been considering losing the 3h in exchange for a 59* wedge or a novelty club like a chipper or a left handed 7i.

Yeah, on "paper" the wedge gap looks like a lot, but for me the distances work out well. I used to have a 54/58, which the 54 was a great all around wedge, but it was too close to the gap. 56 seems to work for me, and this 60 as an option.

You could probably find a used or cheap 60 around town to give a try. For certain shots, it's great. I've been over-using it since I got it and not always hit it well.

For now, the 60 is in the corner and I've added 3W in it's place.

I am re-thinking my bag again.

I have 9* Driver R11 (lofted to Cool
3H
4i-9i
PW 45
Aw 50
54
58
64

I am thinking since my ball striking is so much better now, i might put the 3W in and drop my 5i or maybe my 3H/4i maybe.
My wedges are doing really good for me I think.
Its all about the range.

I was looking at a 15.5 R11S fairway wood, adjust it down to 14 or up to 17, so i could play it 14 with the 3h or 15.5-17 if i drop the 3H

Tough decisions
The tough part is, i have to buy the 3w, not sure what to do. I think the r11S looks good for the adjustability maybe.
I wish I could just leave my bag alone Razz

I've played 60* wedges the past few years. Old grooves. I loved the club. The problem is, my favorite one (I have about six) has grooves that are worn out. They don't bite into the ball like they used to, and the result is that I've been getting a lot of shots where the ball just rolls over the club-face. Since I wasn't sure if I could even hit a 60* with the new grooves, I decided to forsake it altogether.

@ Bryan K

Past several rounds I've noticed that yes there is a yardage gap around 100y in my wedges, between my gap wedge (irons matched) 50*, and 56* sand wedge.

I might resort to a club change, like 52 gap wedge or 54 sand wedge - but I think first I might try just practicing with a choked down or 85% swing on the existing gap wedge.
