Actually had some fun playing never-give-up golf, trying to claw my way out of hell and back to respectability and left the course feeling decent about my game, probably the most satisfying 90 I've ever shot.

Funny how a bad score can leave you feeling good and vice versa.
Good job on sticking it out. I know after 2 holes I can ruin a round and its tough to come back, but it feels good when you say "I was 5 over through 15" but when you say "20 over for the day" not so much LOL.

Your course sounds rough, ours are a breeze, literally, no wind though most of the time.

off-topic: any you guys watch the live video from Kiawah today? speaking of breeze... yipes those flags were whippin'

Anyway back to topic I shot a 92 that was mediocre golf but I enjoyed the company I was with and we had good weather so life is good. I had a 9 on my "good nine"...

Shot a horrible 52+45 = 97 today (from the tips) in the qualification for the club-championships. Still good enough to finish first... Embarassed

BOOYAH! I shot a 99 this afternoon! This would be the second time I've broken 100 on a "big boy" course. The conditons were less than optimal, but I'm seriously beginning to think that helps. It rained for most of the back nine, sometimes heavily, sometimes at a sprinkle. Despite that, I managed back to back birdies on 13 and 14 (par 4 and 3, respectively).

Need to work on those par 5s, though, as I carded snowmen on all four of them.

So, I continue my streaky golf. Good one hole, crappy the next. Obviously the par 5s were a big problem and and really I did everything I could to make sure I didn't break the century mark.

Some good news, beyond the fact that I broke 100, is that I think I have my 5w back. I haven't been hitting it well latey, but I pulled it out at one point when I needed to make up some ground, and hit it nearly 200 yards. Good news.

Awesome steve... great job.

Wow, back to back birdies, I think i might have done this once, but sure as hell didn't start getting more than 1 birdie in a round till just recently.

Thats a good sign Steve, cut out some snow men and you're looking at some great scores.

Keep it up Smile

Here's the funny part - its not the first time I've done it. My first birdie ever was followed by my second birdie on the next hole two summers ago.

The par 3 I birdied is one that I've done before. I think this is actually thed third time I've birdied it.

Yesterday, shot a limp 91. Was so hot humid and windy out there that I stopped caring at several points during the round which is pretty uncharacteristic. Everything was sticky--shirt, shorts, socks, shoes and worst of all the glove. Marine Park is a very exposed golf course since its right on the ocean and there are no trees in play which means nowhere to take relief in the shade. I don't know how I could've played good golf in those conditions. It has been a nasty summer.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here the last couple of weeks. Absolutely gorgeous.

I had my nephew this weekend, and this gave me the opportunity to play the reds for the first time from my home course. The course is a huge proponent of the play it forward campaign, so the reds are rated for men. The impression I got is that even though I have to leave the driver in the bag for most of the round, the reds are a LOT more fun. And on the few holes I can hit my driver, it is a HUGE advantage playing from up there.

My result was a 93. It was a bit worse than my handicapp; however, I lost a few strokes on the holes where I tried to him my driver and shouldn't have. Two penalty strokes on those two holes with both situations ending up costing me at least one more stroke because of having to lay up from where I was forced to play a drop. So I lost about four strokes because of those two errors that I'm sure I can make up next time.

But my biggest accomplishment over the last few weeks has been improvements in my iron play. I took some video about a week ago of me chunking iron shots on the driving range, and I realized that I was extending my arms too much. I've been working on keeping my elbows in at my sides, and the results have been nice. The results is a swing that is much more compact, and my forward momentum really starts inside. I've found I have been making better contact and I have had better control of my trajectory.

Well, I am baffled. Yesterday I played at Heron Lakes on the Great Blue Course and just stunk the place to high heaven. I shot 104 from the blue tees with a 58 on the front nine. Today, I played Lewis River course (decidedly easier) and shot an 86 putting pretty poorly. On the last hole I pulled my drive left. I had 158 to the middle of the green and hit an 8 iron to the back of the green hooking it up and over the trees into the wind. I am guessing that it went about 165 yards. Maybe the best 8 iron I have ever hit. I don't understand how these things happen but oh well.

BTW, I really like the Bridgestone Fixx golfball. $20 a dozen and s

Woohoo!

Me, I shot a 44+49 = 93 yesterday. First nine I'm happy with (though I should be able to at least shave of another 3 just by playing a bit more careful), second nine not so much. A lot of errant shots there, three 3-putts, 1 water, 1 lost ball, 1 bunker, 3 penalty shots (water + unplayable twice). And a hole positioned on an impossible slope... why do they employ greenkeepers that don't play golf themselves? Nobody in the whole field was able to two-put 16, that felt more like midget-golf than real golf! Anyway, finished 12th out of 32 players.

Did you ever have a 4 Bft wind that moves 360 degrees around? It really is weird to have wind blowing from one side and the next hole you feel it shifting to the exact opposite corner.

We have a course here where the wind is in your face no matter which hole you're on. It defies physics.
