Went to the range today... couldn't hit worth sh*t.
I decided to try one of the many things I picked up from many YouTube videos... which made my swing stay square, and with not much effort I was hitting it straight at my target, give or take 10-15 yards.
Have a look... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YatVQpcZd3U
I couldn't believe it the first time I hit it, figured it was a fluke... but no... again and again I kept hitting to the same spot, with the odd screwup here or there (probably due to my giddyness...)
I'm dying for work to be over today so I can try it on the course...

The first one didn't slice at all, the second one did a bit, and the last one did just a tiny bit, maybe 3-4 yards to the right of the fairway. A far cry better than it was, that's for sure!
I just need to learn how to putt, apparently.

Just watched the video; gonna try this tomorrow on the course. I'm desperate to fix my slice and I hope this will help (I'm sure it can't make my slice worse).

its such a minor adjustment, but it forces your wrists to move as they are supposed to. In fact, I found that the swing just FELT right, not awkward anymore.
I also found I had to combine it with not trying to crush the ball, because if I do that I end up with my weight on my back foot and my front toe in the air (years and years of baseball??)
Nice steady swing, dont even try to hit it hard. Just make contact... once I can hit the damn thing consistently then I'll care more about distance.
It's crazy... ALL the videos on youtube for fixing your slice, and this one was so simple and totally worked!

I'll let you know how it goes. I'm so desperate to use my driver again. I stopped using my driver recently just because I was hitting it so poorly (major slicing)and started hitting my 3 wood because I hit it much more consistently straight. I really don't mind using my 3 wood so much because I am hitting more fairways than ever; it's just that I am giving up 20 yards or so of distance. That 20 yards makes a big difference sometimes.

I looked at the video and am going to try this when I play on Thursday. I May go to the range when the wife gets home to try it. I'll post the outcome here.

I tried the slice fix per the video; it did not work for me since I was still hitting a slice as well as pushing the ball.
I do think I figured out what I've been doing wrong though; it seems that my hands have been coming through behind my body making my club face open on impact. I think I've figured out the combination for me; on the downswing, I need to start my hands a little sooner than my body. Once I did this, I was able to hit the ball right where I was aiming. Now I'll just have to work on the distance since this method has changed the distance I am hitting. Oh well, I'd rather hit the ball straight than long.

Long and wrong is still wrong.
Check your natural posture when leaning over the ball. See your hand position when you let your arms hang naturally. That is your natural grip and your body will return to it as you swing the club through impact. That's when it feels MOST comfortable.
My club pro showed me this along with proper hip/shoulder alignment and I've been quite a bit more consistent.

I'm finding a combination of slowing my swing down (that is, slowing the downswing down and not trying to crush the ball) and doing as explained in the video is helping greatly. I have no slice at all with anything but the driver, and even then it's pretty small compared to before.
I definitely need to take a lesson or two, just to get my stance, grip, and swing looked at. But I'm definitely seeing an improvement.

I tried it last night and it really didn't help. But I'm going to persevere and see if I can't get the little bloody thing to go straight.

Well theres always a (good) chance that THAT wasn't YOUR problem. I could see that being a pretty likely possibility why it didn't help you.

I know that when I slice, my follow-through is too much down the target line, and I'm swinging like a ferris wheel. Oddly enough, the fix for my slice is to follow-through low and hard left (but the ball goes straight), like I'm pointing the club behind me on the follow-through (bending the left arm). This guy's videos have helped me a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXjDft0IiEo

Yup that was another that helped me quite a bit. Thats the one that helped me realize i wasnt turning my wrist over, which is partly due to my grip, and partly due to my swing ending up with all my weight on my back foot with my front toe in the air (like a baseball swing).

I watched the video. Very nice tip. The one thing that helped me more than anything is the tip from Tiger Woods. His tip is to keep the club face as far from you as possible drawing back slowly to moderate and on the downswing, keeping the same plane and rotate the club face through the ball while you're shifting your weight. Man, you talk about a rocket launch! Try it.
