i have been using a set of wilson irons and my ball striking is fairly good
im going to get a new set of irons in a while and was wondering what set to get
i average a 105 (just started oobgolf no stats entered)
but most of that score comes from tee shots in the woods, and my 3 putts ( if i 2 putt i get very happy =])
my iron play is what saves me

anyways i need a set of irons that are workable but hittable with some forgivingness
dont base me on my average im a good ball striker but i can use a little more distance and i want clubs that arent expensive (over 700 new)

Welcome to oob!

If your swing has started to become consistent / repeatable, you'd probably benefit from a fitting from a golf pro.

Check out the last 4 or 5 articles from the Wedge Guy on this site. There's a lot of benefit to get a shaft, loft & lie that works for your swing.

I notice you play the Wilson Di5 irons. Those are pretty current and have good forgiveness (albeit with boosted lofts). Why do you think you need new irons?

You might consider a new set of wedges instead (GW, SW, LW, etc.). This is the last year to buy wedges with the sharp, U grooves. Once you have a consistent swing, your most likely area of big improvement will be in your short game.

If it's just the grips, get new grips. Like SingleDigits said, the Di5 is pretty close to a current iron. It'll be a whole lot cheaper than a new set of irons.

Honestly...if I was you...I'd get your current irons regripped especially if they are saving your game. Then, I'd probably start with upgrading your wedges. Most importantly, make sure you have all of your gaps filled. It appears, based on the clubs you play, that you probably have a huge gap between your Wilson pitching iron and your longest wedge. One thing I've learned is that the best way to imrove my putting is to get the ball close to the pin to start with:)

And start posting some scores!

Last year re-started playing, my set was 7 yrs old, clone Taylormade RAC OS irons, 3* flat lie. For me to get a new set meant it would be better to have it made from the dealer which would be a lot. I thought of buying the Callaway Diablo Edge irons w/ graphite shafts but didn't. You know the price. And it's a crapshoot even if I got it , would the shaft flex be right etc. So I opted for an $89 set of Powerbilts, 3,4 hybrids,5 to sw w/R graphite shafts. The lofts on these are like the Cobra irons which are 2* stronger than my RAC clones. The Diablo Edge has 3* stronger lofts than my clones. So I found I can play better without the flat lie and got more distance with these clubs & they are cheap. They go farther & higher too, not as high as the Diablo Edge, but big difference in cost. I highly recommend Powerbilt. By the way check out rockbottomgolf.com for good prices. Good Luck

Just got off ebay the best driver for me yet, A PING Rapture V2 Stiff shaft, very solid head and LONG even when playing a Fade.Actually I play a push.
