Yeomanlike 79 characterized by mostly solid play with a couple of isolated mishaps. A mellow round with not much high or low, lot of pars, no birdies. Good control of the ball except for an OB on the last. Fun round, reminded me how much I like this game.

I shot a horrific 112 playing with my sister-in-law today. For those of you who read and participated in my thread about it, you'll know what this is about. The back nine really wasn't too far off of what I've been scoring. The front nine was a pathetic 60, with bad drives and multiple lost balls. I just put way too much pressure on myself when I play with her. There's absolutely positively no reason I shouldn't score better than that on a course like the one we played. In fact, there is no reason I shouldn't score better than that on ANY course.

And, yes, she beat me by 9 strokes.

I need to get back out there an get the memory of this round out of my head.

Quite frankly Steve I am disappointed--nine strokes is not even close. I wonder how much the sister in law enjoys these thrashings. You didn't even come close to playing double-bogey golf. WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE!?

Man, that front nine was a house of horrors. No words can describe how bad it was.

Took my eight-year-old son with me to play nine holes in an attempt to get the bad taste of yesterday's round out of my mouth. I dont normally expect to play well when i take him out because I'm distracted by keeping an eye on him, but I had a decent half round -- two pars, including one on a hole that I've never parred before. I ended up with a 50, due to too many double bogies. Putted and chipped pretty well, but I'm still having some driving issues, which mostly led to the doubles. Hit from the fairway better than I have in a good while.

The important question is, did you beat your eight year old son?

Slaughtered him. May as well do it now while he's still young.

48/40 - day two of 2 day tournament. Had a bad time on the front side - topping off the tee, etc. Turned it around on the back somewhat. It was still not near the potential. I'll try to take away from it what I can and use it to fuel my preparations for the world am. This is a big golf month for me. However at one point today my thoughts were dark, like screw it, I suck, I aint doing this again. But I stayed with it. This game is the devil. Twisted Evil

Went out sunday with my wife to Treetop Golf Course. Shot a 68 on a short course that i should have eaten for breakfast. that's 3 over par there. Still having troubles with the inside takeaway leading to pull hooks and snappers. Missing greens with hooking wedges is an issue. I had a good time overall with Marie though, she's hilarious sometimes and really enjoys the game - still focus is an issue when she starts chasing squirrels and cows. haha.

Sunday shot 81 with an eagle from 75yds out with a GW, unfortunately had a couple of hiccups for the rest of the round kept me from breaking 80 for the first time on home course. Since the middle of July though I have been knocking on the door, two 80's, an 83, yesterdays 81, one shake your head 88 and an 84 at the Nicklaus course at Pinehills and my handicap index has gone from 12.9 to 11.2 in 3 weeks. Now if I can avoid tweaking my back for the rest of the Summer.

As I have said before,Bad tee balls are the root of almost all bad rounds for the avg player.
Next time try hitting a 5iron off the tee.You probably have a distance edge on her anyway, and a tee ball in the fairway will ease the pressure a ton.

shot a 96 on new course - par 70. started off rough, then started to settle in and thought I had salvaged a decent low 90's round, only to end up taking 7 shots from 15 feet away from the 18th pin. tried to get cute with a short bunker shot thinking I was big time only to end up with a piss warm cup of fail. oh well, I took my medicine and am moving on.

Seems to me you and I both are to be considered "average player" featuring a mid-handicap just a couple of shots over 18. Note:I don't keep statistics here on OOB for qualifying rounds - don't like doing things double but I carry a 19 to 20 handicap at the moment (which is a bit high!).

Analysis of my game usually shows an excessive number of putts (between 35 and 39), due to poor chipping and inaccurate approaches. I'm pretty confident from the tee and my statistics show 9.1 fairways hit per round which translates to 65% (I don't keep "playable drive" stats, but that's a completely different discussion).

Checking Steve's stats here on OOB show a similar pattern (just more extreme which explains his handicap):
29.3 handicap
106.8 scoring avg.
85.7% Playable Drive
2.06 Putts
9.4% GIR

Also note he seems to be playing a bit too difficult courses with most courses generously giving him an extra 3 or 4 handicap strokes over his exact handicap. I would suggest him to tee it forward more and focus mid- and short game - 2.06 putts just is too many!

Interesting idea. Right now I'm working on getting my 5W back (I've been having trouble with it for a good long time) for rounds when I'm having driver problems. My 5W *should* be more reliable off of the tee than my driver, but for whatever reason it's not right now.
