My par 4 second shot stopped, hanging on the lip of the hole. After the other 3 players hit onto the green, I stepped up to look at it. After a few seconds, I took an extremely wide stance and wound up with the putter as if to hit the ball with a driver type swing, slooooly bringing the club around like the second hand on a clock. When the putter was about parallel with the ground the ball fell in. The guys said it was a birdie because I had addressed the ball. I say it was an eagle because I never grounded my club. We scored it as a birdie, did I get screwed?

Two assumptions:

1. You did not ground your club, and
2. After arriving at the hole, the time before the ball fell in was 10 seconds or less.

If those assumptions were true, then you were screwed - Eagle.

It obviously takes more than 10 seconds for 3 guys to hit a ball AND for you to wwalk/ride up to the green.

You have 10 seconds after arriving at the hole, not 10 seconds after making the shot. I must not have been clear enough in my explanation.

"2. After arriving at the hole..."

Could that BE any clearer? Well, I suppose for a certain pubescent type, the literal meaning could have been incomprehensibly overlooked.

I went back and looked for that score card to refresh my memory. That was a 666 tournament. 6 holes scramble, 6 holes alternate shot, 6 holes best ball. 2 two man teams per group. Each twosome keeps the other twosome's score. The other twosome was adamant that since I'd assumed a posture over the ball, whatever happened after that was a stroke. I especially remember that situation because I had badly mishit my drive which left a 165 yard second shot. That's the beauty of Golf, anybody can get lucky.
