Late in 2011 a fellow Oober had posted about what our goals were for 2012. Things like, what to practice, improvements in your game, fitness, etc. As I was filling out my stats (my own log) last night I saw my goals for 2012 and it reminded me of that post and made me wonder how everyone is doing now that we are halfway thru the year. My Goals for 2012 were: to play 40+ rounds, lower my avg score to 85 or less, reduce my hdcp index by 1.5, increase Fw's hit to 50%, GIR to 50%, reduce putts to 1.5 per hole, get up and down 30% and sand saves to 20%. My practice goals were to do it more and focus on short game, bunker play, improve my driving. Fitness was to lose 20lbs and play at least 2 new courses. Well at the half way mark, things stand like this. 2011 listed first, 2012 second. Rounds played: 54/26, Avg score: 87.6/87.4,HDCP:13.9/12.9(7/1/12rev)FW's:33%/39% New for 2012, Playable Drive: 79%, Rest is based on 14 rounds due to temp greens, GIR: 27%/32%,Putts/round:33.48/35,Per Hole:1.9/1.9, U&D: 24%/30%, SS:16%/3%. Practice goals, almost nonexistent, though driving has improved. Have 2 new courses lined up to play later this summer. Lose 20lbs; 232 on 1/1/12, 233.5 on this past Saturday. As far as practice and fitness goes, all I can say is life gets in the way. So, How are you doing?

I don't remember if I stated any goals for this year. If I did I don't think I really meant it. Anyways the goal is always the same--improve in some appreciable way. In that sense I think I've done okay. My handicap is lower and hitting about one more GIR per round on average. I feel okay about my game right now and I suppose that's what really matters.

Horrible. I'm way off target for my 30 birdies.
My scores are better than last year, as I don't have any more blow up holes, but the birdies aren't falling...
Happy with my game, but sad at this stat...

I am very far behind my goal of 20 handicap. However, i have played more tournaments this year which was also a goal, so i guess it's a wash.

20 handicap? I assume you mean a 2?

My handicap is falling, that was one of my goals, keep it coming down.

Last year I wanted to hit 85 by the end of the year... which i did
This year, I want to hit 85 more often and then hit 80 by the end of this year.

I am hitting a lot of birdies which is great, but I really want to limit blow up holes of triple or worse to 1 a round.
0 would be ideal, but I can deal with 1, 3 or 4 NO WAY!!!

funny you should ask. I set 3 1st half 2012 goals:

-play 12 rounds (fail- only played 10)
-break 100 3 times (success- did it 6 times)
-reduce 3-putt% by 10% to 24.8% (fail - only got it
down to 31.1%)

2nd half goals 2012:

-play 12 rounds
-break 90
-increase FW% from 45.7% to 55.7%

I feel a little cheated after the realization that the greens at my home course are atypically fast for a muni. In my last 8 rounds I averaged 23% 3-putt, which is better. My putting is improving gradually and I don't want to put any more pressure on that aspect of my game right now.

I feel like wayward shots off the tee have cost me some strokes lately so am going to focus on that. Will be getting fitted for a new driver soon (anniversary/father's day gift), and will be looking to really tighten my dispersion patterns via launch monitor. Will likely move to a shorter shafted driver, which should help.

My goal for 2012 (aside from just "get better") I announced at a group lesson I took at the beginning of the year when the teacher asked everyone. I said Handicap down to 10 or better by Dec 31st. Mine had ballooned up to around 19 or something at the time.

Right now down to ~13. While yes that is an improvement, I know that 19 to 13 is much easier than 13 to 9.9 -- so it appears to be going ok but the hardest is yet to come.

Aside from scoring lower my other real goal for 2012 is to learn how to release the clubface properly with the golf club. That has been tough. My improved scoring has been happening despite not really swinging better yet. I know I can do better.

I had hoped to get close to single digits but now I would just be happy getting back to where I started at the beginning of the season.

What are you doing at a group lesson man?! I'm wondering if you have a problem with saying "no" to anything golf related.

Heh heh, I am definitely golf-obsessed right now, for sure. My boss called me "sick in the head" when I told him we played 45 holes the other day...

Actually the group lesson was a fundraiser. The guy from our club was selected to play in a somewhat prestigious tournament out in California for the Golf Course Superintendents of America or something like that. He used to be really competitive in serious amateur events, state level etc. Anyway that was one of his fundraisers to help with the trip. It was great, a two day weekend "school". Not your typical beginners type, out-on-the-range lesson. The people in the class were are pretty serious, and the lessons were interesting. I'd say the people in the class were hcpi range from 5 to 15 (plus me, whatever I was). We spent the best part of one day just on wedges and such from 90 yards in to around the fringe. Lots of work on the mental side of handling swing thoughts and pressure during tournaments or matches, etc.

2012 goals are going quite well. Working on everything the best i can. Got the swing wrangled in - For the most part. Nearly knocked 2 strokes off the handicap since this time last year. A few more and i'll have it. I'm fully expecting to shoot a sub-par (the good kind) round this year. Came close a lot already.

New goal for the rest of 2012 -- when i'm going out to a course that i've played before, the gas pedal is going down and it's not coming up until the last putt drops on 18. If it's a course that i haven't played before, i'm going to stay smart and plan out the tee shot for each hole and go from there.

Handicap is down almost 3 strokes over last two months. Hopefully I can get back to where I started by the end of the season.

I have no recollection whatsoever what I said my goals were, but I know I said something. I might have said I wanted my handicap down to 25. That's not happening.

I'm sure I said smoething about goals, but it's not happening. I'll be happy to get to play 1 or 2 more rounds... too much other stuff to do.
